Ghana
New Life International Children’s Home in Ghana, was the first organisation we started working with. We now also have links with Sankofa Mbofra Fie, which runs an orphanage and school in another village in Ghana. More about the individual organisations can be found below. As well as making donations, it is also possible to volunteer on the schemes run by these organisations.
New Life International Children's Home
The Home is located in the village of Ansepatu, near Cape Coast. Around forty children live at New Life, but many more come from nearby villages to attend school there. It was started by Ruby Ayivorh in 1998. Ruby is a retired nurse and has always been concerned with the welfare of others, particularly children. Her son, Derrick Fletcher-Gaisie, and daughter, Jacqueline Hinson, are now in charge of the day-to-day running of the Home and school.
We work with the Home in two ways. We fundraise for specific projects and we also set up sponsorships for individual children.
Some of our projects at the Home have included the purchase and installation of a water storage tank for clean drinking water and building a new classroom for their school. There is more information about these projects, and others, on our Past Projects page.
Current Appeals from the Home:
The Home needs funding for the following things. If you can help by fundraising or by giving a donation, it would be so great for the children.
Repairing and extending the playground: A few years ago, CHW was able to raise the funds for New Life to buy some play equipment. As the only playground in the area, it was quite a novelty, and so lots children from outside the Home come to play everyday too. As a result, the playground equipment is becoming worn. The director of the Home, Derrick Fletcher-Gaisie, would like to repair and extend the playground, and also construct a fence around it with a lockable gate. Children from outside the Home will still be able to play, but the staff of the Home will be able to decide on the times they can come. This means they will be able to prevent overuse and maintain the playground, so that all the children at the Home, and from the surrounding areas, will have a great place to play for many years to come.
To do all of this, we need to raise £2995. If you want to get involved, either through fundraising or giving a donation, this would be so good. You would be bringing happiness to so many underprivileged children.
Vocational training centre: This is a project we hope to complete in the future. Teenagers at the Home and from the surrounding villages will be able to learn skills, like sewing, or carpentry, so that they will be able to provide for themselves when they are adults. It will make a huge difference to the lives and futures of these children.
School Bus: We are supporting the project at New Life International Children's Home to raise the funds to buy a school bus. The school is run for children living at the Home, and for children from the surrounding area. Having a bus would mean that children from further away could be collected and taken to the school and be driven home again once classes have finished. This will give these children access to an education, which is so important.
The director of New Life, Derrick Fletcher Gaise, has spoken to us about the school bus and it is possible to give donations to support this project through CHW. The class is made up of children who live at the Home and children from the nearby villages.
Sponsoring a child:
Sponsorship makes a lasting difference in the lives of these children. You could help to make that difference. Just fifteen pounds can feed a child for a month. If you want to give more, this will be spent on clothes or school materials for the child. You will receive information about the child, and a letter from him or her. It would be really great if all the children at this orphanage could be sponsored!

Until recently the Home was known as New Life International Orphanage. We just want to avoid any confusion with this, as the Home is referred to by its old name on our Past Projects page, for all projects completed before the name change!
Sankofa Mbofra Fie
Sankofa Mbofra Fie runs an orphanage and school, in the village of Eguafo, near Elmina. Around two hundred and fifty children from the village attend this school. Sankofa was established in 2006 by David Kwesi Acquah. David was a street child himself and wants to give as many children as possible a better start to life.
Sankofa's school consists of bamboo classrooms. Although hardly ideal, it means that the children in Eguafo can go to school, at least. However, it is difficult to have class in windy or rainy weather. Work has started on constructing a proper school building and CHW would like to help raise funds for this. Sankofa also needs help with paying the teachers' salaries, and we would like to raise money for this too, as it is vital that these children gain an education.
Sankofa also runs an orphanage. The director, David, hopes that some people might like to start making regular donations towards buying the children's food. Please get in touch if you think you can help!
